Black and White Ruffed Lemur - Five Sisters Zoo

One of the largest lemur species. As their name suggests, individuals are clack and white in colour. They have long tails that allow them to balance high in trees.

  • Weight: 3 to 4.5 kilos
  • Length: 50 to 55 centimetres
  • Habitat: forest of north and eastern Madagascar.
  • Life span: 19 years in the wild.

Adapted to Survive

  • Individuals have a wide range of vocalisations to communicate
  • Individuals can live in groups of up to 16 (safety in numbers)
