Zoo Illuminations 2019
The fun doesn’t end when the sun goes down!
By popular demand, Five Sisters will once again illuminate the zoo, bigger and brighter than last year. There are plenty of new surprises instore with our new enchanted riverside walk showcasing our new snow leopards, stunning lit up water fountains, new undercover heated bar area and of course thousands of breath-taking lights. Come along to our keeper talks and watch our Lions, Wolves and Snow Leopards being fed.

Thousands of lights illuminating enclosures, trees and plants creating what we believe to be a truly magical experience. Wander through our Lost Kingdom, watch our wolves, lions and new Snow Leopards being fed, visit Santa or enjoy the tranquillity of the Japanese Garden.
Enjoy toasted marshmallows around our fire pit, sip on hot chocolate or mulled wine while you stroll around our fairyland of dazzling lights.

Opening times 5pm – 9pm
The official light switch-on will take place on Friday 15th November. We hope to confirm soon who will be officially switching on the Zoo Illuminations 2019. The event begins at 5pm and ends at 9pm the light switch-on will take place around 6pm – however this will be confirmed nearer the time.
All bookings must be made in advance via our ticketing partner, SEE Tickets. It is anticipated to be busy again this year and it is therefore recommended to book tickets as far in advance as possible. We are offering discounted early bird tickets and on-peak/off-peak tickets this year, once these tickets are sold there will be no more tickets released.
Once you have made your booking, you will receive an email from our ticketing partners SEE Tickets confirming details of your booking, with a reference number and a barcode that will be scanned on entry. SEE Tickets will also give you the option to get hard tickets posted to you at a small charge. Hard tickets/ e-tickets should be presented to the ticket desk on the night. Confirmations are sent out very quickly after you’ve made the booking, so if you don’t receive a confirmation please check your junk/spam folders before contacting SEE Tickets.
Alternatively, if booking tickets online is not an option tickets can be booked over the phone by calling 08449959673 (calls cost 7ppm plus the networks access charges).
This is a ticketed event so please ensure you have purchased your tickets online before coming along. Visitors without pre-booking tickets may be refused entry on our busier evenings.
On arrival please go to our ticket desk and present your hard ticket/e-ticket (printed or on your electronic device) to be scanned. Tickets purchased are only valid for the date shown and can only be used once. Visitors without there valid tickets will be charged again or refused entry. All visitors on the one ticket must arrive together as once the tickets are scanned; they cannot be re-scanned.
Cancellations & Date Changes
Tickets are non-exchangeable, non-refundable and non-transferable. No refunds or date changes will be issued for this event if you are no longer able to at tend. If the event is cancelled due to extreme weather, tickets will either be refunded within 7 working days and/or you will be offered tickets for an alternate night. Cancellation of an evening due to extreme weather or other conditions out with our control will be confirmed via our social media accounts and website.
Tickets can be given to friends and family, the name on the booking does not need to be changed.
Please note, this is an outdoor event in Scotland, please dress weather appropriate.
There is no car parking cost in any of our car parks however on exceptionally busy evening we will be running a courtesy shuttle bus to an alternative car park. Our car parking assistants and will direct you accordingly.
Any large groups that have will be arriving by minibus or coach should contact the zoo in advance to ensure there is a suitable car parking space reserved.
The zoo is mainly on the flat and is both wheelchair, buggy and mobility scooter friendly. There is a couple of steep hills in the zoo, but these can be easily avoided and will be identified on our map. We have a few wheelchairs that can be rented out however you must call and reserve these to prevent disappointment.
The Zoo illuminations is an outdoor event and some areas can get very muddy therefore visitors should dress weather appropriate with sturdy footwear.
Card / Cash Facilities
There are no cash machines on site. Most of our food outlets, kiosks, bar and gift shop take card but we would advise you carry cash with you to avoid any disappointment.
Dogs and other pets are not permitted into Five Sisters Zoo with the exception of guide-dogs for the visually impaired. Please note, we also do not permit dogs to be left unattended in the car park.
Smoking will only be permitted in our car park or designated smoking area.
Please note, a lot of the lights at the illuminations will be flashing.
There will be two ASN evening open for families this year – The dates for our ASN evenings are 20th and 28th November. On these evenings there will be fewer people, smaller queues and quieter music. Our ASN illuminations evenings have been a success the last few years and we hope to carry this on this year.

Season / Corporate Passes
Season and corporate passes holders will not receive discount into the illuminations event.
The lions, wolves and snow leopards will be out during the evening as will the nocturnal animals, however we cannot guarantee that you will see all of them on the night you visit. Many animals can still be viewed in their indoor areas. If it is only the animals you wish to see, we recommend that you visit the zoo during the day. Come along to our Keeper talks and watch our lions, wolves and Snow Leopards being fed.
Santa will be visiting the illuminations evening event, where he will be available for a chat and photograph opportunities.
Weather permitting, our children’s rides will be open. These cost as little as £1 per ride. Tokens should be purchased from the token booth located in the picnic area.
Food & Drink Outlets
There will be several fast food outlets open in the zoo selling hot and cold drinks, crepes, doughnuts and sweets. The Leaping Lemurs Restaurant will also be open from 4pm onwards for meals and snacks.
We will have a range of market stalls selling crafts, zoo vouchers and plenty of other gifts – perfect for buying Christmas presents!
Leaping Lemurs Soft Play
This brand-new facility opened earlier in the year and children up to 11 years old are welcome to enjoy a session on the play frame for a special rate of £1 for 30 minutes. No booking in advance, simply pay at the soft play ticket desk.
New Heated Bar Area
Our new heated bar area will be located in the centre of the zoo, this area will allow you to escape the cold for a short time, while you sip on mulled wine, hot cider or some delicious baileys hot chocolate and enjoy some festive music. (there will be non-alcoholic options for those who are who are driving). This area will also provide you with an undercover area to have food or drinks purchased from any of our other kiosks.
