Work Experience

We offer week-long work placements for school, college and university students, where you can experience what it’s like to work in a zoo.

Work Experience Placements

During your work experience placement you’ll work with a range of animals in most of our different zoo sections. You’ll help our keepers with everything from feeding the animals, to cleaning enclosures, to providing enrichment. But please remember – not all jobs will involve working directly with the animals! Zoo keeping involves a lot of hard work, outdoors, in all weathers.

Our work experience placements take place over one week, working full days (8:30am to 4pm) Monday to Friday. Please note: we may extend work placements to two weeks for university level students. They can be organised through your school, college, or university, but we do also like to hear from you personally. Places are limited as we can only take on one student each week, and we are often booked up months in advance. We therefore urge you to book your work experience placement as soon as possible.

To do a work experience placement with us you must be at least 15 years of age and have your own means of getting too and from the zoo.

If you would like any further information on work experience at the zoo, please email or call the office on 01506 870 000.
