Brown Wood Owl - Five Sisters Zoo

Brown Wood Owls have brown feathers around their head, back, and wings with a cream chest and brown bars in the chest feathers. Their facial disc, the feathers directly surrounding the eyes and beak, are also brown with a ring of white feathers around the face. Typical wingspan is 60-80cm and they are a nocturnal species.

Facts

Diet: Carnivore; limited diet information but assumed similar to other owls, which eat small mammals such as mice and shrews.

Weight: 0.8-1.1kg

Habitat:  Southern India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan and portions of China. Dense tropical forest is the preferred habitat but may also be found in other forested areas.

Life span: 5-10 years
