Five Sisters Zoo 2024 Higher Education Work shadowing

After the success of our 2023 placements, we are excited to offer six one-week work shadowing experiences in the summer of 2024. This opportunity is available to students studying a relevant course at a university or college (veterinary studies, zoology, animal biology, animal behaviour, animal management, etc). These placements are designed to give students an insight into some of the varied roles within a zoo setting. Successful applicants should prepare for a busy week! Please note that you MUST notify us in your application of any shadowing weeks that you would be unable to attend. We aim to notify successful applicants of the dates of their shadowing placement by Friday the 8th March, 2024.

2024 Work Shadowing dates:

Week 1: Monday July 1st– Friday July 5th

Week 2: Monday July 8th – Friday July 12th

Week 3: Monday July 15th – Friday July 19th

Week 4: Monday July 29th – Friday August 2nd

Week 5: Monday August 5th – Friday August 9th

Week 6: Monday August 12th – Friday August 16th

To apply, students must send a copy of their CV and a cover letter to adam@fivesisterszoo.co.uk. Please state in your cover letter any of the above dates that you would not be able to attend. We expect a high demand for places, so we may ask applicants to participate in a short ZOOM interview. If you have not heard from us by the 8th of March, then please assume your application has not been successful. We may not be able to provide feedback on every application. The application deadline is Monday, the 26th of February, at 17:00. No late applications will be considered.

These work shadowing placements are for students in higher education only. Five Sisters Zoo also works with Gateway to provide West Lothian Schools placement opportunities (a start date for these placements is currently being discussed). In 2024, higher education and gateway-organised placements will be the ONLY work experience opportunities available.
