Five Sisters Zoo is committed to changing the behaviour and attitude of its audience towards the natural world in order to fight against the global biodiversity crisis.

At Five Sisters Zoo, we are always thrilled to support students and academics looking to advance animal science and welfare or explore the relationship between humans and animals.

We welcome research proposals from students studying at an accredited institution at the undergraduate or Master’s level who are studying a course that relates to either the Five Sisters Zoo mission or one of our research areas of interest (listed below).

For academics, we welcome research proposals in the same areas but are also happy to discuss a research topic not represented in the current list.

If you are interested in undertaking research at Five Sisters Zoo, please fill out the form below and return to adam@fivesisterszoo.co.uk with a copy of your research proposal, including a list of any relevant research, pilot studies, etc. for review.

Please note that we are likely not able to accommodate proposals that involve invasive techniques as part of their methodology. If the project has funding attached, make sure that is noted in your application.

Please submit proposals in plenty of time (ideally 2 months before a proposed start date) to ensure sufficient time for the welfare and ethics committee to comment.

Research Priorities

  • Native species conservation and reintroduction/restoration
  • Rehabilitation and long-term support of rescue animals
  • Increasing animal welfare through both species-specific and general interventions
