Asian Forest Scorpion - Five Sisters Zoo

These arachnids have four pairs of walking legs, a couple of pedipalps (pincers) and chelicerae (mouthparts). Their bodies are dark brown to black and have a red-ish telson (the tip of their tail with the stringer)

Facts

  • Diet: Carnivorous
  • Length: the average is 10 to 12 centimetres, but they can grow up to 18 centimetres.
  • Habitat: Rainforest of India and Malaysia
  • Life span: 6 to 7 years

Adapted to Survive

  • Individuals can deter attackers by snapping their pedipalps.
  • Individuals can create an audible hiss by rubbing their chelicerae and their first pair of legs.
  • Individuals use hairs on their pedipalps to obtain sensory information.
