Yellow-crowned Amazon - Five Sisters Zoo

The Yellow-crowned Amazon is a member of the parrot family. They are a bright and vibrant green with a distinctive yellow grouping of feathers at the top of their beaks and some red feathers present on their wings. Similar to other parrot species, they are monogamous and will form life-long pair bonds. Both males and females contribute to building the nest, taking care of the eggs and caring for the fledglings. This species is sought after for the wildlife and pet trade.

Habitat: Central American and northern South America, including Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, and Guyana; prefers tropical or subtropical forests with high levels of vegetation. Has been found in cultivated areas.

Life span:  50-60 years
