West African Pygmy Goats - Five Sisters Zoo

West African Dwarf Goats come in a variety of colours and coat lengths and both males and females can possess horns and beards. They can breed multiple times in one year, with offspring known as kids. Twins and triplets are not uncommon for these goats and females will begin to breed at around one year of age. A hardy goat species, they thrive in both cultivated and uncultivated areas and across a variety of environments.

Diet: Herbivore; vegetation including grasses, small plants, shrubs and supplemental feeds if they are part of a managed herd.

Weight: 18-25kg

Height/Length: 30-50cm tall; 50-75cm long

Habitat: Native to West and Central Africa; grasslands and deserts, though they have adapted to other climates as the species has been exported around the world.

Lifespan: 12-15 years
