We are very excited to finally introduce Zazu, our new Fossa. He arrived at the zoo in November from Dvur Kralove Zoo
Fossa are only found in Madagascar where it is the largest native carnivore. Despite looking like cats this intelligent species is, in fact, a close living relative of the mongooses. Unfortunately, this incredible species is now considered vulnerable to extinction in the wild. This is mainly due to habitat destruction and human-wildlife conflict. There are now large efforts being made to restore various habitats in Madagascar through conservation education in Malagasy communities and extensive field research.

You can find out about some of the amazing work our conservation partners SEED Madagascar are currently carrying out in Madagascar and how you can get involved by following this link. https://madagascar.co.uk/

For the safety of our staff and visitors, we have made the decision to close the zoo from tonight. Our team of dedicated keepers and vet will continue to make sure all our animals are well looked after. We hope this will not be for too long a period but we will follow government advice and guidelines.

If you would like to donate towards the zoo, we appreciate any help although we know this is a difficult time for everyone.
Thank you all for your continued support and hope we can welcome you all back soon.
