Education Volunteering and Internships
Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak we are not accepting any volunteering applications. All of our current volunteers have been told to stay at home. We hope to welcome volunteers back to the zoo and start accepting applications for new volunteer positions soon. Please note, if you do send an application for a volunteering role over to the zoo nobody will respond at this time.
We run a volunteering and internship programme within our Education Department! Volunteers provide much needed help to our education staff, and in return we offer our volunteers an invaluable experience within the zoo and education fields.
Education Volunteers and Interns
We have a dedicated education team who work with schools and the public to teach people about the zoo and the natural world. Our education volunteer and intern team assist our education staff with everything from animal handling sessions to our range of teaching activities.
We ask our volunteers to commit to at least one day every week/fortnight/month, for a minimum period of 6 months. Anyone wishing to volunteer must be at least 16 years of age for insurance purposes and have their own means of getting to and from the zoo.
We ask our interns to commit to two or three days a week, for a period of 3 months. Anyone wishing to do an internship must be at least 18 years of age, be studying or have studied an animal-related subject, and have their own means of getting to and from the zoo. Internships are unpaid.
If you would like any further information on education volunteering or internships at the zoo, please email email@example.com or call the office on 01506 870 000.
