Habitats & Adaptation
This topic encourages students to think about why we find animals in certain places. Children will discuss various animal traits and how they might make an animal suited to their specific environment. Students will also learn about a range of habitats and human impacts. This topic is complemented by a handling session during which children will meet a variety of animals and discuss their features and natural habitats.
It is suggested that children complete the pre-visit activities in order to establish a baseline knowledge when they arrive at the zoo.
The activities include a mixture of direct teachers from the zoo staff, active learning, critical skills and enquiry challenges. They also encourage the children to work both independently and as part of a group.
