WORK BEGINS ON THE NEW REPTILE/TROPICAL HOUSE!

Posted on in News

We are delighted to announce that work has started on the new reptile/tropical house with a view to it being completed by the beginning of December this year.  Whilst we will never forget the terrible fire that destroyed the old reptile house and so many animals on the 14th April 2013, we are determined to go forward and create fantastic new enclosures for all our reptiles including our two West African Dwarf Crocodiles who amazingly survived the fire, together with a number of exciting new additions.  We would like to say a HUGE thank you once again to everyone who has supported us and your amazing generosity - also to West Lothian Council and NFU for their support and guidance.  We have enjoyed a great summer at the Zoo and exciting times are ahead as work progresses - we will keep you posted via the website, facebook and twitter.

Breakfast time for Carmen, Peggy and Suzy!

Posted on in News

This is the time of year when their appetite increases and we feed the bears a high protein diet to induce the state of hibernation - lots of meat, fruit and vegetables for breakfast today - the buckets of food are scattered through the enclosure to encourage foraging.  The bears enjoy the punnets of fruit (blackberries, blueberrys, grapes and apricots) in their indoor den areas and is normally "hovered" up in minutes!
