A new arrival at the Zoo!

Posted on in News

This is a 2 year old male Eurasian Badger that has come from the Natuurhulpcentrum, in Belgium (the Centre who looked after the bears and lions). He was orphaned and taken to the Centre last year, but was too tame and used to people to be released back into the wild. He's not out in the main Zoo yet as we are letting him settle after his journey - wbadger1rese're just finishing a new enclosure for him at the start of the nature trail. He's adorable!

We're exhibiting at the Glasgow SECC this September!

Posted on in News

Welcome to September, everybody!

As the kids all go back to school for a new year, we are very proud and excited to have a brand new education programme to offer for 2016/2017.

The popular indoor winter programme will be back for its second year with exclusive Keeper Q & A Sessions, Biodiversity Talks and Animal Handling Sessions. Then as we - and the bears - come out of hibernation, there'll be lots to do on our beautiful nature trail in our new outdoor learning programme!

Our programme is linked with the Curriculum for Excellence and ties in with important local and global issues, particularly concerning biodiversity, the magnificent variety of life on Earth.

The Scottish Learning Festival (SLF) at the Glasgow SECC on 21 and 22 September 2016 presents a unique opportunity for us to meet with so many teachers and academic professionals and talk about this new programme!

ROAD DIVERSION TO THE ZOO : for the next two weeks, a road diversion is in place. This is due to the partial closure of the B792 at Mossend, West Calder due to a new housing development and unfortunately this is outwith our control. Diversion signs are in place, with access to the Zoo from either the B7015 from Livingston or Polbeth Road of the A71 (Polbeth Road access not suitable for large coaches).
